How to pair your squash with the right food
Welcome back to Man Cave Mondays where we do what is best to serve our man’s cave. So I had a few whole pieces of squash in my refrigerator and wanted to pair it with something that made sense. Mushrooms are always a great delight and pair well with sliced squash. Since it has been difficult trying to eat meat for lent, I still wanted the meat texture and knew that mushrooms would give me that feel.
The other items that were paired with this meal, were tomatoes, cheese, and rice. You can’t just pair squash with anything but I knew these would be just right. So I began to slice up my veggies.
Slice Squash
Slice Tomotoe
Slice Mushroom
Cube up some garlic for flavor
Slice sharp Monterey Jack Cheese
These meal is muy simple! After you’re are done with your slicing and dicing, get your pots and pans boiling. I began to heat the pan up with a little bit of water at the bottom. Instead of using oil, I prefer to heat steam my veggies with water on the skillet(way healthier). Throw the veggies on and begin cooking. While the veggies are heating up, boil your rice. I prefer canilla rice to bring out my good ole Latin roots. But if you don’t have canilla rice, I highly recommend Jasmin rice. It definitely does the trick! Add a pinch of salt and olive oil in your pot with water for the rice. Once it comes to a boil, add your cups of rice and stir a few times. By this time, your veggies should be on their way to a sizzle. You can add your tomatoes to the skillet last so they don’t get soggy. Now once your rice has drained from your flame, pile your rice in the center of the pot and place the lid on top with the flame on really low. By this time you will be able to add your cheese to the veggies and shut the flame while it melts. The rice will take an extra 10-15 minutes at this point.
When its all done, get your spoon rice piled onto a plate and add your sauté veggies to the mix. Now you have a veggie filled plater with a little bit of carb for energy. And that is how to pair your squash with the right foods.
