The minute you walk in, there is the strongest smell of peppermint relaxation in a box. I cant even begin to lie but the minute I walked in, I instantly felt calm. Greeted by the owner in whispers, Carrie Wright who was extremely delightful. She directed us to get cozy until her previous client were done with their session. Salt rooms require reservations and only take a couple of sessions at once. It is a deliberately quiet and mindfulness space. In town salt room is located in the grant park area of Atlanta ga. Carrie said she wanted to introduce the salt room to be the first salt room in the city of Atlanta.
Carrie Wright started the company after years of being in the corporate branding space and has only been “intown” salt room for 1 year and a half. Carrie started salt room treatments on herself years ago and when it began to change her skin and sleeping patterns, she knew this therapy was something she had to share.
The salt rooms are wall to wall filled with 6,000 pounds of Hamilayan salt bricks imported from Pakistan. Before we entered we were asked to remove our shoes. These facilities are extremely clean and well kept. We began our session in the sound therapy room. The chairs are big comfortable vibrations chairs equipped with a head pillow and headphones. The sound therapy session lasted for 30 minutes, with sounds of echoing, humming, tribal, and ocean sounds to help you fully meditate or fall asleep, whichever is your preference. I felt like I was sailing on a ship to another country with tribal sounds from a different culture. It was soothing, it was relaxing, and Naomi and I both felt fully replenished and full of positive toxins.
The Himalayan Salt Cave Sanctuary is sterile. It’s about 68 degrees and has zero gravity chairs to lay back on. In this room their is a pit on the floor full of grinded salt. This room holds a machine that crushes the salt and brings salt mist into the room. We laid back on the zero gravity chairs and put our headphones on that played ocean sounds to kick back. Within a few minutes I let out a cough and thought it was smoke. The air grew slightly foggy and we began to taste and smell the salt. Because I have asthma and allergies, I was a bit nervous about how my body would continue to respond. However, as I laid back and soaked up the salt I began to taste it in my throat and throughout my body. I stopped coughing and immediately began to feel my sinuses drain. My stomach and digestive system felt a bit bubbly. The Salt seems to help with inflammation so I wasn’t sure if it was that or because I had lunch before going to the salt room. Otherwise we enjoyed the rest of the session with some relaxing conversation.Once we stepped out and put our shoes on, I felt like a load was taken off my shoulders. My nose started running because of my sinus and allergy issues, it was all coming out.
Intown Salt room is a quaint and beyond cozy space. Carrie says most of her customers are new to the salt room experience however those who know about salt room therapy, know about the great benefits. The benefits vary for people who have eczema, to anxiety, asthma, ear infections, acne, snoring and sleep issues. The one other thing I expressed interest and concern in was whether or not I’d be able to bring my toddler in for therapy since she’s had a really bad cold for over a month. Great news is that the salt room is actually also highly beneficial for children and babies. It actually helps children a bit faster because of their smaller organs breathing in the salt much easier. The treatment is safe for adults, children, babies, and even expecting mothers. Although Carrie recommends that if expecting moms are experiencing a high risk pregnancy, they may want to consult with their doctor first. “During a typical adult session, customers put their feet up in a comfortable leather chair rest or read and breathe in a dry salt aerosol. Children are welcome to sit in the salt pit and hang out.
My advice to you is before you go into the salt room, make sure you hydrate yourself and use the restroom. The salt is very strong and can dehydrate the body if you are not properly hydrated. You’ll get the best experience by going in comfortable and with an open mind. Try and tune into your holistic hippie side and you’ll love it!
