Legumes that are great for your heart
Out with bang, you will remember my name! Said DMX many years ago. Something along that line anyways. Lol. Damn, remember back in the day or even back in August 1st, because 30 days ago we set forth on a mission to continue and progress within this hot summer month with super foods and secret items within our recipes. How are you feeling and are these simple recipes working for you?
Today marks the last day of this month, but September is looking so right. #icantbelieveit. August is in the books. I wanted to lighten the load on heavy meals and keep the energy churning through the day during that time after lunch. Oh you know that time, it’s when most of us reach for that 2nd cup of Joe. I devised a plan to stay awake with food. How did I do this? Not so easy, but done well.
Step 1 – Sleep. I know. It seems like that’s nothing to do with food, but there is plenty to do with it. Get to bed at the same time every night. If you decide to eat something, ensure its not fatty because your body will toss and turn trying to get it processed.
Step 2 – It’s work time, you’ve reached mid afternoon and you know you don’t feel tired, but you didn’t listen to step 1 because you either through your bedtime off while on ig or fb or YouTube, but without further ado, after lunch, you know you’re going to want to nap. So you have to eat a well balanced high protein meal. It’s simple. Think complex carbs. You don’t want anything that will strike and peak your sugar levels and send insulin running in to save the day.
Step 3 – Eat this below.
– Legumes (beans, peas, lentils) outstanding food that’s great for your heart and building muscle.
– A high protein pasta or brown rice– this is a complex carb and will not drive your sugar levels up, which in turn will make you crash. This type of carb will gradually be processed by your body and keep you full. This is not only a healthier choice, but a simple change that goes a long way.
– Pickled or a vinegar based vegetable – I chose roasted red peppers, pickles, and sun dried tomatoes. This not only brightens your plate, but adds quite a bit of taste to your legumes.
Bam, Boom, and Voila!
There you have it. One of the cheapest meals that is sure to save your pocketbook.
See you in the fall. Keep those comments coming and don’t forget to share your experience.
