Ways to loose weight after birth
Kim Kardashian eats 1,800 calories a day to lose baby weight
Kim Kardashian already managed to lose 42 lbs just three months after the birth of Saint West… How did she do it? With strict diet of healthy fats and proteins adding up to 1,800 calories.
According to People, Kim announced she was following the Atkins 40 plan to lose 70 lbs after the birth of Saint West.
Her Atkins nutritionist, Colette Heimowitz, told Redbook she focuses on eating proteins like eggs, chicken or meat in each meal to help her stay satiated throughout the day. She usually pairs proteins with high fiber foods and healthy fats; she also stays away from sugar, sweets, white flour and white rice.
According to People, “In total, Kim eats around 1,800 calories a day, which is on the low end for a breastfeeding mom, Heimowitz explained. Going too low would actually hurt her weight loss progress.”
Heimowitz states, “A low-calorie diet leaves you hungry all the time, and you need to not be hungry in order to be successful. When you have adequate calories, protein, fat and high-fiber carbohydrates you won’t be tempted to add something.”
So is Kim’s way of losing baby weight right?
Watching calories and fat are essential to losing weight after birth. “Say no to empty-calorie foods like sodas and chips, as well as fad diets that eliminate entire food groups. Instead, fill your diet with a variety of nutrient–rich meals containing lean protein, whole grains, fresh fruits and vegetables and plenty of low-fat dairy products, says Tammy Baker, M.S., R.D., a Phoenix-based dietician“. Looks like Kim is on the right track.
Other ways to lose weight after birth are;
- Get some exercise; even walking around your block is a great way to moving.
- Breastfeeding; breastfeeding burns about 600 to 800 calories a day. Yet, be aware that as soon as you stop or taper off breastfeeding, your calorie needs will plummet. You could really pack on the weight if you don’t adjust your diet downward and your exercise routine upward.
- Taking naps; Getting plenty of rest is always good for new moms. Sheah Rarback, M.S., R.D., director of nutrition at the Child Development at the University of Miami School of Medicine says, “Getting plenty of sleep has been shown to help with weight loss because you’re not compelled to binge on high-calorie, high-sugar foods for energy”.
- Eating healthy- high fiber snack; Eating healthy snacks will help you keep sustained during the day and also keep you from overeating. Keeping nutritious foods at your fingertips is a great way to avoid temptation. Eating high fiber snacks like figs, whole wheat crackers, raisins and veggies can fill you up and keep your digestion.
Hopefully these tips will help with calorie burning after the baby is born. If you had hubby around after work then maybe you can pass him the baby for some “me time” to get your burned calories going.
